No move to re-introduce six month stay limit for expatriates outside Kuwait

Tuesday, November 23, 2021

There is no plan to stop the renewal of residence for those expatriates who are staying outside Kuwait, the Residency affair department said. The residency will continue to be renewed for those who are staying outside Kuwait provided they have a valid passport, even if they are outside Kuwait for more than six months.

The sources said that any new law implementation, which will re-impose the six month period rule for staying outside, etc will be given enough time before it is implemented.

During the Corona pandemic, Kuwait revoked the six month rule and any expatriates who are staying outside for more than six month are allowed to renew their residency online from outside Kuwait. Most of those who are outside Kuwait are holders of Article 22 (Family Visa), who left Kuwait during the Covid pandemic. Also many of them are vaccinated with vaccines, which are not approved in Kuwait, and are still unable to return to Kuwait.
