Farmers play a very important role in this world. They are the backbone of our nation. Without farmers our life is impossible. We need food to survive. A farmer grows food grains, vegetables, fruits and pulses. We get to eat proper food because farmers grow it for us. They produce the food-crops and the oil-seeds. They produce the commercial crops. They produce some raw materials for our industries. Hence, they are the life-blood of our nation. The farmers are busy day and night. They work in sun and shower. They plough the land. They sow the seeds. They keep watch over the crops at night. They guard the crops against the stray cattle. They guard the harvest against the thieves. Bullocks are the precious possession of the Indian farmer. They take care of his bullocks. Their wife and children help them in their work. His poverty is well-known to the entire world. They cannot get two full meals a day. They wear a piece of coarse cloth. They cannot give education to his children. They cannot give fine dresses to his kids. They cannot give ornaments to his wife. The farmer's wife has to manage with a few pieces of cloth. She also works at home and in the field. She cleans the cowshed. She gathers cow-dung and pats it into pancakes. She dries them in sun and piles them up; because she will use them as fuel during the wet monsoon months. Therefore, a farmer plays a major role for the entire world. A farmer lives in a village. They grow crops and keeps animals. They work very hard. They get up early in the morning and begin to work in the field. They works from morning to evening for us, for him rain cold or sun do not matter much. A farmer leads a very simple life. He is very poor. He lives in a hut or a mud houses.

His income is very low. But he tries to stays a very happy life. His life depends on his land and animals. Rains play a very important role for all the farmers. A farmer becomes happy if there is a very good rainfall.

The poor farmers had to depend on bullocks, buffaloes and horses for plowing. In some countries they used even camels. Traditionally the farmer knew the kind of seed and soil but when things went wrong he was helpless against natural calamities. He was following crude methods to store his food grains. The lack of proper transport was a problem. So the farmer had to struggle hard. India is an agricultural country. Seventy percent of the Indian people are farmers. Some farmers are even harassed by the village touts. They are harassed by the money-lenders and the tax collectors. Hence, they cannot enjoy their own yield.

The condition of the farmers should be improved. He should be taught the modern method of farming. He should be made literate. So, night-schools should be opened for him. He should be assisted by the Government in all possible ways.

It is time for the government to recognize the root cause of the problem and work towards eliminating it in order to control the cases of farmer suicides.
So it is important for all of us to respect and take care of our farmers.

Jai Javan Jai kissaan !
Long live our farmers !

A special salute to our farmers.
