I was not someone who was into reading from a young age, but I loved to hear stories. My parents and grandparents where my main source of stories when they slowly started withdrawing from storytelling is when I was introduced to the world of books. I was always a child who craved for something that would quench my imagination. The first books that made me fall in love with reading was comics. Comics that made me laugh out loud. Then wimpy kid was the most famous of them all I used to buy all the new editions and read them for hours on end. After a few years into reading my parents redirected me to explore new genres of books and that’s when I shifted from comic to fiction. The change was fast I quickly recognised my taste I was interested in mythological fiction and in nonfiction I was drawn towards history and philosophical books.
Through books I could realise who I really was and what I really want from life. It’s not always possible to try out everything to reach a point where we will be satisfied with what we are, sometimes we will have to hypothetically go through such situation. Reading books from different genres help us to learn from each and along the way gives us a taste of everything. Reading helps us to identify the curious and interesting self in us which has never before come to the surface.

Books propose a world in itself, it creates an alternate reality which sometimes gives peace to someone in the world who is hurt, it empowers them with education and knowledge and gives them wings to fly. When we read a book a great personality has written about his life we are able to condense his entire life’s experiences in just a matter of a few hours. It’s not less than a magic to do that. When we read about a person who came from the same background as we are and made it big in the world, it empowers us to dream big and believe in those dreams.

Reading regularly also help in writing, it helps us to use the right language and refer the right context. It also helps in communication whether in daily talks or in speeches, reading always gives us an upper hand in conversing. By reading we will be aware of most of the topics in the conversation and helps to start a conversation with something the other person will be interested in. In a speech too we will be able to confidently speak on a variety of topics and take part in effective discussions. This not only enchases your communication skills but also develop many healthy friendships and builds confidence. Many conversation does not start not because of the lack of confidence but mostly it’s also because we are not aware of many topics to up crack a conversation.

In today’s day and age where there are many other ways to gain information and knowledge like social media, internet, television etc. books still have a special place to hold. Books are seen as the most accurate source of information which can be relayed on more than any of the other medium. On this national reading day, we should all once again, inculcate the habit of reading books and enter the world of your own imagination.
