Bhavans IES Hosts the Carnival of Languages

Jleeb, June 15, 2021: Language has the magical power to ignite a spark of creativity and unleash the innate talents sublime. To accentuate the literary knowledge and provide a virtual platform for the young bards and artists, Bhavans Indian Education School, Kuwait, virtually hosted ‘Litera 2021’, a literary extravaganza featuring an array of online and offline literary competitions, under the aegis of the Departments of English, French, Hindi and Sanskrit, on June 12, 2021.

The multi-lingual language fest kicked off in the morning at 9.00 with the recitation of a few verses from the Holy Quran by Mr. Mohammed Sodky, Coordinator, Department of French, Primary Wing, followed by a prayer song by Mr. Sunil Menon, Head of the Department, Sanskrit. Ms. Hima Nirmal, Coordinator, Litera 2021, cordially welcomed the virtual gathering comprising Mr. N.K. Ramachandran Menon, Chairman, Bhavans Middle East, Mr. T. Premkumar, Principal, Indian Educational School, Ms. Anselma Tessy Judeson, Vice Principal, Senior Wing, Ms. Meenakshi Nayyar, Vice Principal, Middle Wings, Ms. Lalitha Premkumar, Vice Principal, Primary and Kindergarten Wing, the contestants of the event, and the pedagogues of IES. This was followed by the briefing on Litera 2021 by Ms. Seema Menon, Subject Coordinator of French for Middle and Senior Wings.

The Chief Guest for the day was Dr. Navniit Gandhi, a freelance writer, counsellor and trainer based in Kuwait. Dr. Gandhi expressed her immense gratitude and happiness for being a part of a literary fete of such magnitude. She also emphasized the need to nurture the habit of learning languages to foster healthy relationships and stay connected with people and their varied culture. She reiterated that such literary competitions offered an opportunity to students to redefine their boundaries of language acquisition.

A video titled ‘Down the Memory Lane’ reminiscing the marvelous moments of Litera 2020 was played for the virtual viewers. Mr. T. Premkumar, Principal, IES, in his closing thoughts, extended his gratitude to the Chief Guest for gracing the occasion with her presence. He also applauded the efforts and the synergy exhibited by all the departments of languages in making Litera 2021 an eventful one. He further urged the students to learn languages and evolve as polyglots of prominence. The inaugural function came to a close with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Nithin V.M., Head of Department, Hindi, Middle Wing.

The excitement reached a crescendo at 9.30 a.m. when all the vibrant virtuosos reported to their respective virtual venues for participating in various competitions. A host of online and offline events such as recitation, declamation, extempore speech, debate, advertisement making, question to question, lingua persona, tell a tale, newscast, pen, and paint, click and quote, visualize a verse, essay writing, versification, story writing and turncoat was organized by the Department of English. The Department of French organized events such as recitation and quiz. The Department of Hindi organised exquisite events such as recitation, show and tell, character portrayal, storytelling, advertisement enactment and comedy show. The shloka recitation and character portrayal competitions were conducted by the Department of Sanskrit. The results of the competitions held in various categories were announced at the respective virtual venues by the event coordinators soon after the contests. The e-certificates of excellence were also awarded to the winners of various contests amid rolling rounds of applause from the virtual audience. The emcees of the event were Ms. Jezy Joseph and Mr. Liju Joseph of the Department of English, IES.

‘Litera 2021’ was truly a top-notch literary fest that got the students of IES in an exultant mood as it provided them an impetus to exhibit their extraordinary literary and linguistic talents.
