Alshaya Group Organised Kuwait Blood Drive to Celebrate and Support World Blood Donor Day

To support World Blood Donor Day on 14 June, employees from Alshaya Group, a leading international retailer, were pleased to give their help by donating blood to the Kuwait Central Blood Bank.

Organised by Alshaya’s local Sport and Social Committee, over 120 employees participated in the campaign. Blood donation sessions were held at the Kuwait Central Blood Bank in Jabriya and at the Al-Adan Hospital on 29 May and 9 June 2021.



Thanks to the volunteers, the Central Blood Bank collected units of blood which will be used for a variety of critical purposes including trauma and burn treatment, as well as the treatment of cancer, sickle cell and other chronic diseases.

Seneca Cottom, Alshaya Group’s Head of Sustainability and Head of the Alshaya Sport and Social Committee said: “There is always a demand for blood to treat many different medical needs. Arranging for employees to donate blood was a great way for us to give back to the community by supporting Kuwait’s healthcare and medical services. We were very happy to contribute to the important work of the Kuwait Central Blood Bank, especially in the run up to World Blood Donor Day. The sessions proved to be really popular with colleagues who were very pleased to participate.”



Alshaya Group was grateful for the support of medical and professional staff in Jabriya and at the Al-Adan Hospital who helped to ensure that the blood donation sessions ran smoothly and efficiently, particularly in light of the present Covid-19 pandemic and the extra pressure this puts on Ministry of Health resources.
