The meaning of Ramadan is burning or scorching heat. Muslims start setting Ramadan on new moon. People believe that Muhammed prophet saw an angel in the night time because of this incident Ramadan was discovered. Ramadan last longs till 30 days. In Ramadan most of the people fast to get blessings from Allah. During Ramadan Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins. Pray for guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils and try to purify themselves through self-restraint good deeds. When the month of Ramadan arrives the door of mercy is opened. It helps Muslims being more obedient and less greedy. Fasting helps Muslims being patient. The meal before daylight is called Suhur. The meal after break fast is called Iftar.
The Ending of Ramadan marks the starting of Eid. People spend time with their family, friends and relatives etc. public schools and businesses are closed and gives holiday. During Ramadan malls and restaurants are opened till late night.
