Ajai Malhotra becomes first Indian Chairperson of the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council

Former Indian Ambassador to Kuwait Ajai Malhotra has become the first Indian to be elected as Chairperson of the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council (HRC), ANI reported.

"Congratulations Ambassador Ajai Malhotra on your election as the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council; the first Indian to receive this honour and privilege," India at UN, Geneva wrote in a tweet.

Ajai Malhotra Malhotra was the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait from 2009 to 2011. His interaction with the common people made him popularly known in Kuwait as “Peoples’ Ambassador”. He made the services of the Embassy available to the common man with his noble and innovative changes. He also served as ambassador to Russia (2011 to 2013), Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York (from 2005 to 2009) and Romania (with concurrent accreditation to Moldova and Albania) from 2003 to 2005.

After retirement, he served from 2015 to 2019 as Independent Director of India’s public sector oil and gas company, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), as also of ONGC Videsh (2017–2019).
