Our country India is a democratic country. With the word democracy we can understand that we have the freedom, even to choose the government. We can stand in election as candidate and be a part of the government. Because of this freedom our parents are able to send us to school and make us study, are able to work anywhere in India and go around India without the permission of anyone.

Our constitution has given us right for everything that include Right to Equality, Right to Freedom, Right Against Exploitation, Right to Freedom of Religion, Cultural and Educational Rights and Right to Constitutional Remedies.

But are we sure that this freedom is not being misused? Is this freedom to be restricted? Let us discuss about it.

•The Right to Equality includes equality before the law, irrespective of religion, race, caste, sexual orientation and place of birth. It also gives equality in job opportunity and education. It also abolishes untouchability and titles. But are all Indians enjoying this right. No. Still in all fields inequality persists.

•They Right to Freedom is misinterpreted in our country in many ways. If one is enjoying the virtues of freedom, it should not be in a way that it disturbs another person’s life. Our constitution gives us freedom of speech and expression, assembly, movement, residence, and right to practice any profession or occupation. Let’s discuss it one by one.

?When we come to freedom of speech or expression, we have a lot to discuss. Politicians and media are wildly misusing the freedom of speech. This is a right to express our views but not to say anything as we wish which even affects others life miserably. When we were having only All India Radio and Doordarshan, we were getting correct news about the day to day affairs. Now all media are biased. We can’t believe any news. And they are peeping in to other’s personal life.

?Freedom of Assembly gives us freedom to assemble anywhere, but even terrorist have the same freedom which is to be restricted.

?Freedom of Residence gives us freedom to reside anywhere, but people are misusing this right by encroaching forest area, river banks even government’s land to build resorts, hotels, posh residential buildings etc. As per government’s rule we cannot occupy forest area. and we should not destroy rocks or mine sand from river bank. This act disturbs the nature and results in big natural calamities.

•The right against exploitation prohibits all forms of forced labour, child labour and trafficking of human beings. Children under age of 14 are not allowed to work. But there are forced labour and child labour still present in India

•The Freedom of Religion gives freedom of conscience and free profession, practice, and propagation of religion, freedom to manage religious affairs, etc. But now religion is a part of politics which results in heavy damage to lives. Almost all political parties have religious backings which has to be avoided. Religion is a personal practice which should not be allowed to be mis used by politicians to mis lead people. When religion and caste make people crazy, it results in murders.

•The Cultural and Educational Rights preserve the right of any section of citizens to conserve their culture, language or script, and right of minorities to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice. But still many people are deprived of education even if they have the qualification or merit, either because of their financial status or caste. Many problems are purposely made in government educational institutions, so that people will opt private institutions for better education, which is not affordable to many people.

•Right to privacy is never present with press. Even your data given to government, banks or hospitals are not secure. As said, there are many thefts are happening.

While enjoying freedom, people should stop misusing it by themselves. But as they aren’t stopping these, the government should take action to prevent all misuses. Restrictions to some extant are essential to protect citizen’s rights. The people also should realize their duties and use the freedom in right way to rise our country to progress.

Jai Bharat! Happy Republic day to all Indians.
