Technology – Ruining or Helping? On a bright sunny day, when I was sitting in the lawn of my house with Mongo, my puppy, I saw a stranger person come in through the gates.

The house was devoid of people, it was only me and Mongo, who were present at that point of time. My parents were out, and the stranger was walking slowly, taking in the appearance of my house.

I did not have any idea what exactly kept me, and my puppy glued where we were sitting.

The man looked up at the house, then right down at me, sitting on the lawn. The next thing I know, he was sitting in front of me, Mongo barking his head off at that man. He made the dog shut up by scaring him with lions, and then started taking to me. He had a hoodie on him, and he wore a mask, obscuring his face.

“Funny”, he said, pointing at the phone in my hand. He had a hoarse sort of voice.

“What? What’s funny?”, I asked rather rudely, adding, “Sir?”, to sound more polite.

“If I tell you to go without electronics for a month,”, said the man glowering at me, “Would you be able to do it?”

“Of course.”

“Ok then”, he snatched the phone from my hand, to which I yelled, “HEY! GIVE IT BACK! IWAS SEEING SOMETHING IMPORTANT! I might lose it!”

From the way his eyes shimmered, I knew the stranger was smiling.

“Ah”, he said, waggling his finger at me, “People who cannot stay without the phone for a minute, vow to stay without them for a month?”

I opened my mouth and closed it again, defeated.

“This technology has made the worst of you, Dhwani”, said the man, “You –-- “

“How do you know my name?”, I asked him.

“---you have no idea what harm it can do”, said the man, ignoring me. “First thing, look at the glasses on your eyes, what’s the number?”

I didn’t answer.

“Well,”, he sighed, “if you look at your ancestors, you’ll see that they were quite different from you. These things have made your talent go somewhere, from where you cannot bring them back - - All has gone, diminished with gadgets. ALL CAUSE OF THE RUDDY TECHNOLOGY!” he growled, making me jump.

“If it had not been for technology, you wouldn’t have been ruined. Technology is ruining not helping”.

“How can you say that?”, I asked furiously. “If it had not been for Technology, we would be going 20kms on foot to reach schools! There would have been no Malls, and –”

“Now you get it”, said the man. “Now you realize what responsibility people had earlier. This was the thing I tried to explain.

“Technology has its benefits too. You are right, Dhwani, right for the things you just told me but as it is said that the Excess of everything is bad, excess use of Technology is bad too.

It has its benefits too. Everything has its Pros and Cons. We have access to information on our fingertips. Things can be done in a faster and an efficient way and if you don’t mind, I wanna introduce myself”.

He pulled off his hood and mask

“DAD!”, I exclaimed. “You?”

It was him, with his dark colored hair and black beard.

He smiled at me.

“Me”, he acknowledged. “I thought that if I explained a thing to you as a stranger, you’ll understand it better”.

“Thank you, daddy”, I said, “Thanks a million times!”.

Dad smiled at me again and took me in the house with Mongo in his arms. Only then I Realized why Mongo had gone quiet. He had, of course, sensed his master.
