Covid-19 has affected more than 218 countries worldwide with 64.5 million cases altogether. So in order to curb the spread of the virus amongst people all countries took the decision to go virtual/online which resulted in an increase of demand of electronic goods worldwide. Different electronic devices are being used for different purposes. Laptops and PC’s are being used for attending online classes and they are also used as a source of entertainment for viewing different OTT platforms like Netflix and amazon prime. The demand of laptops increased rapidly leading to them being out of stock. Apart from laptops, TV also proved to be a good source of entertainment and helped people to come out of boredom. This resulted in an increase of screen time among people. There was also a slight demand for music systems and e-readers. Not being only limited to these, but people also bought gaming devices like Play station because children could not go out of their houses because of extreme risk of contracting with the virus.

Now coming to its impact, the use of electronic gadgets has a positive impact as well as a negative impact on children. Children get time for completing their work at their own pace and can also stay stress free.

The use of electronic devices does not make children bored as reading a book makes them. As a result, they can get to learn about new things or read something through an e-reader rather than reading it through a book which would bore them. Not only children have benefitted from the use of gadgets but other people have also benefitted from the use of the gadgets. Women have learnt and tried out new recipes with the help of laptop and TV. People have also learnt new things like writing a blog or creating a YouTube channel or registering for a course. The job working people also work from their home so they can also pay attention to their children and spend time with their family members. Using electronic devices can also help people increase their IQ level. It can also increase their quest for discovering new things and they can also learn tricks or shortcuts to solve something. During the present situation, small children can learn how to draw, paint and also increase their creativity. For example during the lockdown, I felt there was not much to do but then on exploring several options I managed to find something interesting. I tried out making some tasty ice cream using few ingredients. Along with that I also developed interest in reading comics online even though they were not at all interesting for me. Just like few people, I also tried writing some blogs which were not really successful but I found that to be a personal online diary for me.

Just as a coin has two sides similarly the use of electronic gadgets has also lead to negative impact among people during the current crisis. Children having no other way to tackle the boredom have started playing games and are not able to involve in other activities. Men and other job workers are also working hard day and night by sitting on their devices so that they do not lose their jobs. All of this has resulted in the increase screen time of each person which has started to affect their eyesight, ears and their whole nervous system. Well, the above line on screen time suits me the best because at times I found myself completely bored that I had nothing to do but just watch some old matches and at times I used to have continuous online tests which would tire me and my eyes extremely very much which resulted in my eyes turning red. Not only restricting myself to games or tests but apart from that I used to have online talk with my friends through zoom or other meeting applications.

Though, the use of electronic gadgets has bad impact on us but it also can help us relieve ourselves from our stress and keep us safe. But this can only make such a good impact on us only if we use the devices to a certain extent and not for a long time. It can also be useful for us if we keep their uses and harms in our mind and not just spend most of our time on it. Therefore, stay home and stay safe.
