"Ayurveda is the science of life or longevity and it teaches about the power and the cycles of nature, as well as the elements.'' Ayurveda is a system of medicine having originated in India near 5,000 years ago. It is the oldest system of medicine still practiced in the world. The word, Ayurveda is made of two Sanskrit words, Ayur meaning LIFE and Veda meaning KNOWLEDGE. It helps for the treatment of sickness by the use of herbal remedies or practices such as yoga, meditation, and healthy diet.

Ayurveda tells about how a man is made up of the same elements as our environment known as fire, water, earth, air and space. It also tells about the constitution of human to be of the forms known as doshas. There are three doshas namely as Vata, Pitta and Kaphas which tells about the personality and characteristics of a person. It is believed that Pitta dosha controls the hormone functions and digestion while Vata dosha controls the breathing and heart functions and Kapha dosha is Vata dosha is responsible for energy and movements. Ayurveda not only focuses on medicines but also about lifestyle changes. Ayurveda helps a person to understand his/her body composition. The Ayurvedic acharyas are known to have great details of the herbs and minerals which are used in the treatment to maintain our health. The ministry of Ayush has made guidelines of Ayurvedic vaidyas to follow while treating Covid- 19 patients. They have also recommended using ayurvedic herbs such as ginger, tulsi, cinnamon, turmeric and raisins which helps to increase our immunity against Covid – 19 as a healthy immune system helps in the recovery from corona infection. They have also advised to take chyavanprash in the morning which contains many herbs and increases proteins in our body. According to Hindu mythology Dhanwantri is the god of medicine. Every year on the occasion of Dhanwantri Jayanti (Dhanteras) we celebrate National Ayurveda Day. This year Ayuveda day is celebrated on 13th November.
