Diwali, the festival of light!! It is a time of immense joy and lights everywhere. One main thing used in Diwali are crackers. Bursting crackers adds a lot more fun to our celebrations. It’s something that is ingrained within us since our childhood and it’s difficult to imagine not using crackers during the festivities. However, lack of proper education and precautions can result in fire and burn accidents. What people thought would be a grand and enjoyable night quickly turns into the hospital’s trauma centre. To enjoy the celebrations without accidents and regrets, you need to follow the safety precautions while bursting crackers. Some safety measures that are important to follow are given below.

1. Buy branded crackers from licensed shops. Avoid buying unbranded crackers from unauthorized shops. You can never be sure about the quality of such products and it is too risky as well.
2. Store crackers in a place away from fire or sunlight. A sealed container made from solid wood or hard plastic is the best option as these materials can resist small sparks and electric current.
3. Wear thick cotton clothes. Denims are a great choice as they can resist sparks and heat. Clothes made from khadi can be worn to reduce the risk of fires.
4. Light crackers from a safe distance. Remember, even the slightest spark is enough to create a huge fire. Lighting crackers from a safe distance is always necessary to ensure safety.
5. Burst crackers in an open area. Avoid bursting crackers in congested or crowded spaces as it will increase the risk of fire and burn injuries. If you are using rockets, make sure that it is not pointed towards someone’s house or towards a busy road. The best place is an open ground away from houses and roads.
6. Never ignite crackers in your hands. Some people try to do such things and the result is that the crackers burst almost instantly, causing severe damage to the hands, eyes and ears.
7. Always pay special attention to children and teenagers as they are the ones who are most likely to ignore safety measures and risk their lives. Make sure that you are not burning crackers near elderly people or people suffering from asthma. The fumes of the crackers may be inhaled by them which can severely affect their lungs.
8. Always keep a first-aid kit handy.
It is necessary that you follow these precautions to ensure an enjoyable and fun-filled Diwali with your family and friends, without any regrets.
