Teachers are the ones who remove us from darkness and bring us to the path of light. ‘Guru’ meaning the person who enlightens us plays a very vital part in our lives. There was a great Doha written by Kabirdas, it stated that:

“Guru Govind Dou Khade, Kake lagoon Paav...
Bali Hari Guru aapne, Govind deeyo bathay”

In these verses Kabirji states that if we are to choose whom to offer our prayers between the lord and our teacher, we must offer it first to our teacher because he/she is the person who reveals us the path towards the lord.

A teacher has many important roles in our lives. The first teacher we get is our mother. She teaches us basic things as soon as we are born. She teaches us to eat, drink, wash our hands, pray, walk, run and the main thing of all, she teaches us good manners. Another great teacher is our mother nature, from whom we can learn many things, most importantly the main elements of life. She teaches us to be resourceful, hardworking, kind, grateful etc. and the main thing of all she teaches us the quality of tolerance.

We have many teachers who teach us in our day to day life. They too teach us many values like to be contended, to be punctual, hardworking etc. they develop us into a good individual who would be an asset for the society and not a liability. They bring up the potential in us and helps us to display it too. They do not only teach us science, math, English, social science, dance, music, art etc.… but they also help us to develop into a very capable individual who is able to become a good leader and to work efficiently.

It does not always mean that only great people are teachers. Or not only people elder than us are teachers. But we can learn even from small people, because everyone has their own point of view and their own level of knowledge. So basically, we can learn from everything in the world from a small ant of micrometers to a human and to a big, giant elephant. Everything in this world has something to teach us and all of them are great teachers.

I dedicate this article to all my lovely teachers!!
