Teachers: Our Silent Heroes

The backbone of society, the head of all professions-Yes! It is our very own teachers. A world without them is like a world devoid of brightness; for how are we to live without our guiding light? They are there for us almost always, for anything big or small, that requires their help, advice or ear. These silent heroes work day and night for our good, but the recognition their toil receives is pretty much next to meagre. This Teacher’s Day, let’s make a change, and see how we, in our own ways, can appreciate them and place huge smiles on their faces.

Now, some of us may think, “Come on, it’s teaching! How hard could it possibly be? They just got to go to the classroom, teach the topic set for the day, probably correct a few books, and they’re done!” Well, it isn’t all plain sailing. What seems so simple to us is nothing less of a mountainous pile of never-ending work! Most of them even fulfil roles as parents, which itself is one long roller-coaster ride. But teachers somehow manage all this with smiles on their faces, leading some to actually believe the initial lines.

Imagine having to do all this, yet not really complain, because the future of the world depends on you? Teachers shape us, train us, and mould us into better beings for tomorrow. They serve as a parent, a sibling and a best friend; all this for us, without the slightest hint of any strains and tensions on their plate.
Despite all that they do, not just for you and me, but for every single person out there, it is sad that they are often not praised enough, even unappreciated at times. The hard work they put into everything they do for us, sometimes goes unnoticed.

we must show our gratitude, even with the smallest of things, such as a pleasant greeting, standing up before/after their entry or exit to the classroom, a thank you at the end of every lesson- all these would do to brighten their day. As it’s their day, we can even prepare cards, maybe small gifts or anything else to show them they indeed play a very important role in their life and that you love them. But apart from all materialistic pleasures, if we are able to make their hearts swell with pride every time they hear our name or see us, then we have certainly gifted one of the best presents possible. Make them feel glad and say, “You know, I taught her/him long ago, brilliant is she/he!”

Won’t you, too, be filled with joy at such a remark?

Teachers are one of the pillars of our life. Not a single profession would exist if it weren’t for them. They provide the strength, courage and determination to stand on our own feet, head high, and march forward towards achieving our dream and transforming the world. In turn, we must also respect them, and give back what we get in our own, simple ways. It is beautifully quoted that teachers are nothing but candles, consuming themselves to light the way for others. Without them, none of us would be half of what we have become today.

A very Happy Teacher’s Day to all my beloved teachers. May your day be filled with joy and laughter forevermore.
