My Experience During Lockdown

For some people the term lockdown is all about using electronic gadgets from the morning till late at night. For people who like studying it is all about the online classes and studies. But, for people like me lockdown is a question. A big question, which has multiple answers. And the question is "What will I do during lockdown?"

It has been about four months since I have stepped out from my house. I guess the last day I went out was for dance class.

In the first few weeks, I was busy studying for the annual exam (please don't think that I am a scholar). After few days it was announced, that since the COVID- 19 had spread from China to rest of the world especially to the region where I live, exams were postponed. I was really happy by hearing the news, thinking that I will have a few more days to study, (since I didn't finish studying). A few more days into the lockdown the exams were getting postponed frequently. I felt a little gloomy since my parents had told me I would not be given the permission to use electronic gadgets till the exams got over.

Then one day I received a mail from school saying that exams were cancelled. You can easily imagine what my situation was. I was so happy that I almost froze in my place for a second. I couldn't believe what I just read. I just felt like I was on cloud nine.

So, you might be knowing what I was going to do next. Exactly, guessed it right. I just sat in front of the television and started watching movies. After watching many movies, I got bored so I just thought to myself- why don't I make myself productive?

Then came the question- "What will I do?" But there were too many things I wanted to do that I was confused which one to pick from that long list. After thinking a lot, I decided to start cooking. After many failed attempts and a few successful attempts, my mind being quite the restless one, wanted to do something else.

So, I decided to start drawing. Although I am not a good artist I thought to give a whirl. After drawing a few pictures I realized that to become an artist or good at something you have to work hard and practice more. Like the proverb says, "Practice makes a man perfect". As I wanted to be better at it, I kept drawing for most of my lockdown days.

After a few days, online classes from the school started. Even though online classes were not better than normal classes, where I could interact with my friends, I still enjoyed it. One day during my classes, my English teacher told us that our next topic to study was how to write articles. At first, I thought it was boring. After some time, when she went deeper into the topic I realized that article writing was kind of interesting. She then asked one of my classmates who was really good at writing articles to share her experience of how she started writing.

The presentation was really interesting and I started to feel that if she could do it then why don't I also try it. So, I decided to start writing articles. I think it was not only for me, but it was quiet inspiring for all.

This was my experience of how during lockdown I started to sow the seeds of writing articles. Perhaps, lockdown is not so bad after all. Maybe we can all use this opportunity to try something that we have liked, but never got to try out. As the quote goes ‘If you want something you have never had, you must try something you have never tried before.’
