A Silent Pandemic: Rise Against It!

“Adam, Eve, Albert Einstein, C.V.Raman, Steve Jobs, you and me. We all have something in common, guess what...that’s “HUNGER”. We all go to school, college, job…but for what? The one and only universal unifier- FOOD. But then again is that strive for food over? In India about 250 million people go to bed every day without food.
Let me tell you a story…
Once, there was a rich guy named Jeff, he was a manager at a huge company like Apple. He and his friends were working hard on a project and thought they needed a break, so they decided to hold a party in a big restaurant.
In the weekend they got together and had a blast. Jeff and Dan were close friends and as it was late night, Jeff said he’d drop Dan at his house. They drove off the restaurant and as they were approaching Dan’s house a really sad thing caught his eye, a poor malnourished old man was searching for food in the garbage. It was a cold winter night and everyone was warm and cosy in their houses while this really really poor man was looking for scraps of food in the trash bin of a restaurant. Jeff was shaken and really upset by the sight. As it was really late Dan pulled Jeff inside and forced him to stay overnight. After a long line of reasoning Jeff finally accepted to stay.
Early next morning, he awakened to hear loud screams coming from the street. There was a big crowd near the garbage spot. Jeff walked over to the crowd and to his astonishment there sprawled over the road was the poor old man who came into his notice yesterday. Before he could come to terms with it, a boy from the crowd cries,” Oh! Poor Dadaji has died because of hunger ‘’ Those words hit Jeff’s heart. He went back to Dan’s house, his heart filled with sorrow.
Jeff felt really guilty and thought that somehow, he was the reason for the poor man’s death.
There is a huge gap between the rich and the poor living in the same street. Jeff and his colleagues had a big party at a five-star hotel and wasted loads of food, whereas the poor man had nothing to eat except bits from the trash. They spent more than 15,000rs. While the poor man died without a simple meal of 15rs. It is our undefined duty to end the gap between the rich and the poor.
What if Jeff gave the poor man some food? What if he had not hesitated and had given the poor man shelter in the middle of the cold night? He could have saved a life! It’s that simple, but was he ready to do it? What if we spend that money to the really needy people of our society, think about how many lives could be saved!
Usually, what I do is go to the beachside regularly on weekends and give sandwiches to the people who work on the streets, really tired and hungry. We don’t have to do something big…we have to do what we can and that will mean a lot. I believe that we all have that power to help the less fortunate people.
If we’re able to fill a single man’s stomach it is a great thing. Nowadays, people have become beyond selfish and are running behind their chaotic and hectic lifestyle. Mother nature has created this coronavirus to give us some time to think about what truly is living, don’t you agree with me. The world is surviving just because of the few people who express humanity. Hence, we have to develop the humanitarian nature of the people or else there is no assurance that our condition will change.
