Time and Tide Waits for None

Time and tide waits for none is a common proverb that I bet that you have heard at least once in your life. You could have heard it from one of your teachers at school or from your mom or dad at home or even in the internet. Either way, you must have pondered over the proverb for at least a few minutes. So, have you ever wondered about the connection between time and tides?

Even though there might not be anything common between them at first glance, time and tides are more similar than we realize. Tides drift across the surface of the ocean without any restriction. No one can stop them or bend their will. Time is just like tides too. No one can stop time, no matter how much they try. They both are unstoppable. Our only option is to go along with them.

Time plays a very important part in our lives. In fact, the whole world runs along with time. In today’s competitive era, everyone wants to be at the very top. We often consider our fellow competitors as our enemies, but in reality, we all have a common enemy, that is……….time. Time acts against all of us. If we stop to take a rest or simply because we are too tired, we get left behind and it will be very difficult to get back on track. For most of us, there is no time to sleep, no time to complete our homework or a project or no time to do anything at all.

So, how do we solve this? One of the best ways to use time to our advantage is time management. Managing time requires us to draw up a timetable, set deadlines, prioritize activities and make sure that we actually follow them.

But timetables mean nothing if we don’t really do things on time. So, we always have to be punctual. When others are waiting for us and we are late for a meeting or a presentation or a movie we as well as others loose valuable time. And that is something we should never do because even a few minutes may make a big difference for them.

The main problem we face in today’s world is laziness. Sometimes, we are just too tired to do things and we postpone it to another day without a second thought. This procrastination is very harmful for us and can affect our productivity. When we keep postponing things, they eventually pile up and we have to do it all at once. After all, a stitch in time saves nine.

Now, I am sure that you all are wondering if this actually works. Can we truly complete all our work, each and every thing we have to do in time? I can assure you that you can, because I myself practice time management. I wake up early every morning and begin planning my day. If there are too many things to be done, I prioritize. I draw up a carefully plan timetable and follow it throughout the entire day. There is not only work, but also entertainment. After all, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. At the end of the day, I am satisfied. I have completed all my work and am content.

After all, time is the closet companion of every successful person. There are many talented and hardworking people around the globe. But some of them miss their opportunities just because they were late to catch it. For instance, a person may forget to pack their bags the day before for a trip. But in the end, they might miss the time and lose their money just because they forgot to be prepared. Hence, timing is very important in every day of our lives.

Therefore, in the end, it is time that shapes our entire life. Our life is short, so each and every minute counts. In that time available to us, we have to utilize every second. We can only reach great heights in life if we manage time properly. So, use time wisely and make it count.

“Time is free, but it’s priceless.
You can’t own it, but you can use it.
You can’t keep it, but you can spend it.
Once you have lost it, you can never get it back.”
