Authority warned social media post on sharing untrue news

The Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority warned users of the social networking application about the spread of tweets attributed to government figures. Authority indicated that some of the social media users are publishing fabricated news in order to mislead people.

The authority disclosed it has monitored some electronic applications (such as Facebook Pages and Tweets) which help rumor-mongers create fake tweets and impersonate well known personalities on social media platforms.

The authority affirmed it will take the necessary measures to block these applications, while stressing to social media users the importance of verifying tweets and news before sharing them; and that they should obtain information from government sources.
