Kuwait Airport ready to receive citizen coming from corona hit countries

Kuwait is ready to receive citizens brought from countries hit by coronavirus, in accordance with a plan meeting international health criteria, Ministry of Health said Tuesday, but no-one would get on a plane if already infected.

"Once disembarked, Nationals will be directed to health facilities at Kuwait Airport and will be tested by a medical staff for the coronavirus, and then classify them into categories," Undersecretary Dr. Mustafa Redha told.

People with positive tests, he explained, would be taken to a hospital specially designed to receive cases while negative tests would be taken to compulsory quarantine.

Redha said MoH was coordinating with Foreign Ministry, Directorage General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Kuwait Airways to get lists of passengers to be brough back between March 25-29.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled along with Minister of Health Sheikh Dr. Basil Al-Sabah and Head of the General Administration of Civil Aviation Sheikh Salman Al-Hamoud today visited the medical examination centers at Kuwait International Airport before the arrival of the first evacuation flights of citizens from abroad. During his visit, Prime Minister reviewed the existing preparations and the plan of services provided to receive the citizens who will be evacuated from abroad.

The MoH, DGCA and Kuwait Airways setup reception areas, in which medical teams would be testing citizens shortly after their arrival. The citizens with negative tests will remain for 14 days in the compulsory quarantine before they can return to their homes, he said.

National flag carrier Kuwait Airways (KAC) and privately-owned Jazeera Airways will bring back the Kuwaiti nationals from Egypt, Lebanon and Bahrain aboard three flights on Wednesday. A KAC flight will head for Beirut at 8:55 a.m. Wednesday and another one for Cairo at 12:20 p.m.. Jazeera Airways will operate a flight for Manama at 5:45 p.m., the DGCA said in a statement.
