KEF TECRIC Organised Super-7 Cricket Tournament in Kuwait

“TECRIC Super 7”, an innovative, 7- over cricket tournament played with 8 players a side was conducted by Trichur Engineering College Alumni Association. All eight Alumni teams (TEC, CETA, NSS, KEA, AECK, TKMCE & MACE) under the Kerala Engineer’s Forum participated in the tournament spread over two days - 6th and 13th December,2019, in Vision Cricket Club grounds, Abuhalifa.

In the first phase of the tournament twelve league matches were played. The participation of all the 8 teams made the tournament inclusive and the games were played in the true spirit of cricket. For each match, a selected player was awarded for the “Moment of the Match”, for a spectacular showing during the match, which was selected by the umpires.

The highlight of the league matches included some good batting by Nishanth (NSS), Sharath (KEA), Mahesh (AECK), Abin (AECK), Vipin Ashok (TKMCE), Tharun (NIT) and bowling by Shajeer (TEC) and Naseef (KEA).

The Magic Moment of the match awards from the league matches were grabbed by Binu Kareem (CETAA), Arun Chandrababu (NIT), Saleeh Naseef (KEA), Priyada Murali (MACE), Vipin Ashok (TKMCE), Fouad (AECK), Geo Ronnie Joseph (KEA), Tharun Viswanathan (NIT), Fouad (AECK), Deepak (TEC), Abhilash (TKM), Renju (KEA), and Sharon (NIT).

After the league matches, TKMCE & NSS from Group A and KEA & AECK from Group B qualified for the semifinals / knock out phase.

Semifinals saw some tense matches with high intensity and quality. In an exciting match, TKMCE backed by some excellent individual performances from Thanseel, Abhilash and Vipin sparked the major upset with 3 wickets win over the tournament favorites AECK. Thanseel for his bowling performance was selected as the Man of the Match. In the second semifinal KEA continued their excellent run and defeated NSS comfortably by 55 runs. Sharath Vasudev was declared man of the match for his spectacular strokeful innings.

In the finals, winning the toss and batting first KEA was tested by disciplined initial overs from TKM bowlers Thanseel and Ajmal. Sharath once again built the innings for KEA with intelligent shot selections to a respectable total of 71 in the stipulated 7 overs. Against an at par total, TKM started off disastrously with their star player Anfar, being run out in a mix up. Pressure mounted for TKMCE batsmen as KEA opening bowlers, Naseef and Sharath bowled their heart out. The run chase built some momentum later with some lusty hitting by Abhilash and Vipin, however, TKM was always on the catch-up mode. KEA took wickets regularly and TKM innings folded for 52 runs. KEA won the match and were crowned champions by 19 runs victory.

The closing ceremony saw Sharath Vasudev from KEA sweeping the award for Man of the match in finals and Best Batsman of the tournament and player of the tournament. Saleeh Naseef was adjudged as the best bowler of the tournament. Runners up trophy was awarded by TECAA General Secretary Abdul Jabbar to TKMCE team and the Winner’s trophy was awarded by KEF General Convener Abdul Sageer & TECAA Chairman Shaju Meleveettil to the KEA team.

The tournament was a huge success, where the players and members of KEF fraternity could play and watch some good quality cricket by the fellow members.
To enhance the festive atmosphere and to create interest, a “French Cricket” game was held for the kids and “POWER WOMAN” competition was held for the ladies during the break between matches. Cricket enthusiasts in KEF are eagerly awaiting the next edition of the TECRIC Super 7 tournament.
