Kuwait MoH approves generic drugs

Kuwait Ministry of Health adopted on Tuesday terms and specifications for purchase of generic medicines.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Badr, the assistant undersecretary for medicines and food supervision, said in a statement the generic drugs are of high quality and can be safely consumed. However the generic products must bear the name of the country of origin and stamp of the registration department of the ministry of health.

Generic drugs are copies of brand-name drugs that have exactly the same dosage, intended use, effects, side effects, route of administration, risks, safety, and strength as the original drug. In other words, their pharmacological effects are exactly the same as those of their brand-name counterparts.

These drugs are of lower price as compared to the brand-name ones, as they are copies produce after the expiry of patent.
