ASSP Kuwait Chapter organized 3rd Technical meet on “Commemoration of "World Ozone Day 2019”

American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) - Kuwait Chapter is a premier voluntary, non-profit making Health, Safety and Environmental organization, which strives to provide professional guidance, training, consultancy and resources to the industrial and social sectors in the region.

The United Nations International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is commemorated around the world on September 16. The theme for the year 2019 was "32 Years and Healing".

ASSP-Kuwait Chapter in commemoration of "World Ozone Day 2019” organized a Technical Meet for their members on two topics, 1) International Day for Preservation of Ozone Layer and its significance Title 2. Contribution towards ‘Sustainable Excellence’ in Kuwait through efficient ODS Management." The sessions was held at Best Western Hotel, Mahboula, on 16th September 2019.

The Technical Meet started with the opening remarks by Mr. Mazharuddin Shaikh, ASSP Kuwait Chapter Secretary, who briefed about the importance of technical meets. Mr. Sunil N Sadanandan, President of ASSP Kuwait welcomed the participants and appreciated their participation in the technical meet. Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim, Deputy Head of HSE Events Committee introduced the speakers for the day Mr. Tawfeq s Deek & Mr. Jaykumar.

Mr. Tawfeq S Deek is working as an Environmental Specialist for a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) for Kuwait Oil Company (KOC). Mr. Tawfeq has more than 30 years of top, diversified experience in various industries, Environmental regulatory body ‘California Environmental protection Agency (Cal/EPA)’. Mr. Tawfeq presented the aspects of the ozone depletion, related treaties and current scenario of the ozone layer due to the stringent action by the countries worldwide.

Mr. Jaykumar presented on Contribution towards ‘Sustainable Excellence’ in Kuwait through efficient ODS Management. Mr. Jaykumar is the VICE PRESIDENT of ENERGY & SUSTAINABILITY Division of M/s NAPESCO, Kuwait and the VICE-CHAIRMAN of NAPESCO's Indian subsidiary company– M/s NAPESCO India LLP, India.

He is also a well-recognized Social worker within the Engineering communities in Kuwait.

Mr. Jaykumar also briefly described the importance of ozone layer protection and the practical difficulties with respect to the implementation of the phasing out of the Ozone depleting substances (ODS). He also presented Halon phasing out with international practices and other, ODS substance management and the status of ODS management in Kuwait.

,which was conducted by Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim and the gifts were distributed to the correctly answered members.

The session was very much interactive, and members clarified their queries with the speakers. The Technical Meet concluded with the thanks note by Vice President of ASSP Kuwait Chapter Mr. Jahid Thakor and he thanked the speakers and felicitated with a memento for their time and efforts in delivering the presentation towards the benefits of the ASSP Members.
