Holy Spirit Margao Flying High: Goan League

Round 5 of the ‘Goan Football League’ (GFL) 7-aside football league had some exciting matches played at Daiya Grounds.
Holy Spirit – Margao, Capxem Boys, St. Christopher FC, Goa Strikers and Amigos de Jardine coasted to smooth victories.
Holy Spirit are unbeaten in Group A; they have the maximum 15 points from 5 matches.
In Group B, St. Christopher FC, and Amigos de Jardine are yet to suffer a loss. They are 1st and 2nd in the Group with 13 and 11 points respectively.
STARS OF THE DAY
Ajay Satarkar of Holy Spirit, Margao was awarded ‘Man of the Match’ for the second consecutive Friday.
Melvin Fernandes of Capxem Boys, Mairon Fernandes of St. Christopher FC and Jayden Luke of Amigos de Jardine were pick of the scorers on yet another hot day in Kuwait.
Melvin dazzled for his team while scoring an impressive hat-trick against Navelim Stars, while Mairon and Jayden Luke scored two goals each for their teams.
One of the real stars of the day was CRC Chinchinim goalkeeper Anthony Fernandes.
The experienced goalkeeper has been playing in Kuwait for over 2 decades now. Last year he suffered a fracture to his arm and had to be operated. The warrior was at his best, guarding the goal yet again. Although Chinchinim lost, Anthony made some notable saves.

Timoteo Gomes of St. Rita, Maina; Ajay Satarkar of Holy Spirit; Joel Cruz of Capxem Boys; Mairon Fernandes of St. Christopher FC; Alecio Tavaso of Dynamos FC and Jayden Luke of Amigos de Jardine.
The awards were presented at the hands of Gasper Crasto, Stevan Corriea, Nazi Azavedo and Michael Pereira.

GOA FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The innovative idea of the league is conceptualized by Manuel D’ Costa and Austine Abreo.
This is probably the first time in history that an association has come forward to organize a league for Goans.
The league promises to bring Goans together in Kuwait although the weather may not be too promising for competitive football or attract spectators with summer temperatures in Kuwait being the hottest in the world.
