Sports Day at Indian Learners Own Academy, Kuwait

“Sports do not build characters, they reveal it.” A quote well said by John Wooden. In order to reveal our student’s true character, Indian Learners Own Academy, Kuwait celebrated its First Sports Day on Thursday, 18th April 2019 in Al Nasser Sporting Club, Kuwait.

Sports day was held with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere. Sports Day dawned with the shining sun looking down upon us and then played truant by sending us some cool showers of blessings. Students sporting their House uniforms colorfully filled the area. The programme began with the Principal, Mrs. Asha Sharma welcoming the esteemed gathering. The opening ceremony began with the March Past where colours of each house represented a stunning rainbow in the light drizzle of rain. The Supreme Council headed the march considering it as their privilege and honour. After a quick inspection, the squads marched in unison as a cheer went up from the audience. The Principal Mrs. Asha Sharma took the salute of the impressive March Past of the students, coupled with some stirring marching music by the band.

Principal Mrs. Asha Sharma and Vice Principals Dr. Sheeba Balraj and Mr. Vineeth hoisted the flags while everyone sang the National Anthems pompously.
The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the lighting of the Olympic torch and the oath being administered by the Sports Captain Moinudeen. The students of classes 3 and 4 demonstrated freehand exercise mesmerizing the audience with their energetic performances. The medley of athletic drill display added colour and charm to the day. The array of artistic and athletic skills captivated the hearts of the spectators.

Once the races began, the air reverberated with cheering and tons of encouragement for the young athletes. Students of classes 3 to 12 competed in events including race, sprints, relays, long jump and high jump. After that, yogasanas were carried out by class 7, bringing an expression of incredulity on everyone’s faces due to their immense flexibility and uniformity. In the U19 boys category, the sports captain Moinudeen won the 100m, shot put, 4X 100 relay and in the U 17 boys category Johan won for javelin, shot put, 4x100 relay. At the end of the day, students departed with a clear smile on their faces. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and memories to cherish. The sweat of each is priceless and the effort made by each student, teacher, staff and parent has no limits. Even though everyone left the venue physically, their cheers and spirit is still present out there in the walls of each corner.

The day culminated with a few remarkable achievements that enhanced the glory of the sports history of Indian Learners Own Academy. The day ended with the awarding of the Medals and Certificates to all the winners. At the end of the day all realized that ‘Winning is not everything but making the effort to win is.’
