Community Blood Donation Drive in Mahboula and Abbassiya

Monday, May 6, 2019

Ramadan is a precarious time for Kuwait in need of blood donations. Blood supplies tend to fall Drastically due to various reasons during the season. That puts the lives of countless accident victims, patients undergoing surgery, and those suffering from chronic illnesses at risk. In order to manage the situation, Blood Donors Kerala, Kuwait Chapter jointly with the Kuwait Central Blood Bank, Jabriya is organizing Two Emergency Blood Donation Drives in Mahbula and Abbassiya on 10th and 11th of May 2019, respectively from 8:00 PM to 12:30 AM.

People tend to donate less blood during the summer and especially during Ramadan time when they’re fasting, which causes blood bank to often run short. For that purpose and as part of Blood Donors Kerala, Kuwait Chapter’s Community Service initiative which aims at developing awareness on Voluntary Blood Donation, the “Blood Connects us All” campaign was created to urge more to donate their blood. People who are fasting can donate blood, but only after they have broken their fast at sunset. That’s why the above campaigns are organized from 08:00 PM to 12:00 Am in the most expatriates populated areas such as Mahboula and Abbassiya.

Blood Donors Kerala is a Global Social Media fraternity promoting the message of voluntary Blood Donation has conducted 6 Blood Donation Drives in Kuwait so far in 2019 itself and has scheduled more Drves in the coming months too.

In just 30 minutes you can save 3 lives. Repeated blood donations may help your blood to flow better, reducing viscosity, and possibly helping to limit damage to the lining of your blood vessels, which should result in fewer arterial blockages. Every blood donor gets a “mini physical” prior to donation to check blood pressure, haemoglobin, and temperature, along with testing for 13 infectious diseases. People who volunteer for altruistic reasons, i.e. to help others rather than themselves, live longer than those who volunteer for more self-centred reasons.

As per the MOH Kuwait policies, an individual between the age of 17 and 70, having a valid Civil ID and has not travelled outside Kuwait for the last six months (except GCC), can donate Blood in Kuwait.

BDK Kuwait’s all the activities are conducted under the guidance and patronage of Kuwait Central Blood bank only. Unimoni Kuwait is the annual sponsor of BDK Kuwait where as Indian Doctors Forum, Musiq Beats, Darshan Photography, Yathra Kuwait are the official partners of the campaign in Kuwait. The community event will be partnered by Al Awthar General Trading and Contracting Co., Oriental Insurance, Kuwait, United Indian School & Calicut Live Express.
