“India Is The Cradle Of The Human Race, The Birthplace Of Human Speech, The Mother Of History, The Grandmother Of Legend And The Great Grandmother Of Tradition. Our Most Valuable And Most Instructive Materials In The History Of Man Are Treasured Up In India.”
-Mark Twain

The story of this great nation, India started millenniums and millenniums ago. Beginning from the Indus Valley Civilization and the Indo-Aryan Civilization fusing to form the Vedic Civilization to the Harappan Civilization and the rise of various religions to onset of succession of powerful dynasties including the Mauryan, Guptas, Rajput, Mughal, Delhi Sultanate and Maratha to establishment of British India which led to the Indian Independence movement and Partition of India thus creating the Republic of India. The story just doesn’t end here. It is actually from here that India strives to become a Great Nation. A great nation that was dreamt by all Indians. The making of the constitution became the foundation of a more civilized and organized country. The governments took steps to develop India in all sectors. The present Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi with his teams launched several programs like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Digital India, etc. Indians are working to make India ‘the Golden Bird’ once again.

India is the seventh largest country but I believe people here have the largest hearts. A visitor here is not considered as any random guest but is considered to be God. It is the diversity in the culture of all Indians that acts as a binding force and unites all of us. Numerous religions in this country act as a strength for India and not weakness. India is a country where every religion and every caste finds home. In times of trouble, every Indian is united and fights all problems together. India will always remain united no matter what happens. I believe India is the best example of Unity in Diversity.

It is definitely not that there are no problems in India. Poverty, lack of basic infrastructure, illiteracy, poor sanitation conditions, corruption, decreased opportunity for youth, terrorism, caste and gender related discrimination, superstition, etc. still prevails. These problems are impeding our path to progress. There are hundreds of problems but on the other hand there are thousands of minds who have millions of solutions for these problems. An appropriate example for this is Demonetization. It has broken the backbone of terrorism and shut down most of the sites of corruption. After demonetization it looks like it’s the end of black money in India.

At this point India is a developing nation in terms of education, infrastructure, etc. but is a developed nation in terms of arts, literature, etc. Moreover, in the pre historic era several inventions and discoveries have been made by Indians which are bases of many other findings. It is said that Sanskrit is the mother of all European languages. Much of mathematics is due to the famous Indian mathematician and astronomer Aryabhatta who discovered zero. The Sushruta Samhita by the Indian author Sushruta dates back to sixth century BCE is considered to be the foundational text of Ayurveda. Sushruta is also known as the ‘father of surgery’ as detailed accounts of surgery are found in these works which are also extremely accurate. The ideals of democracy also traces its origin from India dated back to the sixth century BC. There where early democratic institutions which comes from independent republics of India, sanghas and ganas. The historical monuments, famous buildings, etc. have a strong attractive force and cannot stop travelers from not coming here. In modern history scientists like Jagdish Chandra Bose, C.V. Raman, etc have helped shape present day science. Mahatma Gandhi not only help free India but also led the struggle in South Africa. Nelson Mandela was extremely inspired and motivated by the ideology of Gandhism. In present day too India is well known and recognized among other nations. The president of the United States of America said that he is a big fan of India (source: Hindustan times). Indians are recognized worldwide for their works in the past and present. Indians are working towards a glorious future.

I am proud to be an Indian because it is not a perfect nation but has to be made a great nation with actions, efforts and hard work of every Indian citizen. I believe that the real enemy of India is not any other nation or any social evil. The real culprit are the people who don’t want to work and toil for the nation. It is definitely true that every common man cannot become the prime minister or president and make vast decisions but as an individual, every Indian must take small steps and support the country’s development. It is a small step that will make all the difference and it the journey of a million miles that starts with a small step. Let us all forget all the fail attempts and false happenings in the past and begin an entirely new story of the perpetual journey of a nation that witnesses nothing but development, happiness, togetherness and advancement.
Hail Mother India!
