Soorya Festival mesmerizes the Audience

Soorya Kuwait Chapter, in association with Kuwait National Exchange Co., staged “Soorya India Festival 2016 on the evening of April 27, 2017 at the the Salmiya Indian Model School, Salmiya, Kuwait.

Subi, Second Secretary, Indian Embassy, inaugurated the festival, which aims to promote international integration through culture, by lighting the lamp, along with Renjith Pillai, Marketing Head, Kuwait National Exchange Co.,, Vijay Karayil, President, and B.S. Pillai, General Secretary. The Embassy Official appreciated Soorya Kuwait Chapter for its excellent efforts in promoting the rich Indian culture. General Secretary welcomed the Audience.

The program titled “Insight” was presented with three strong women characters in 3 solo dramas by 3 Bharatanatyam exponents Dr. Janaki Rangarajan as Draupathi, Arupa Lahiry as Ahalia and Dakshina Vaidyanathan as Soorpanakha , was an excellent treat that mesmerized the audience of all age groups gathered.



The program started with the performance of Arupa Lahiry. A disciple of legendary Chennai based dancer Chitra Viswesaran, she regaled the viewers as the danseuse showcased effortless expressions and quick movement. She did her best in the abhinaya sequences to bring the character to life.

Nandanamani Dr. Janaki Rangarajan, presented excerpts from UNRAVELLED, a new solo dance theatre production that explores the unseen layers of the iconic Draupathi. Her precision in Nirtha (rhythm), outstanding flexibility, graceful and convincing abhinaya, were all reflected in her recitals.



The performance of Dakshina Vaidyanathan as Soorpanakha captivated the audience with her brilliant movements. She did full justice to the lyrics and presented it with beauty and involvement.
In total, the performance of all the artistes was eye-catching as it was clear from the standing ovation that the crowd gave to the artistes.

Later, the artistes were honored with gifts for their illustrious recitals. Renjith Pillai and Vijay Karayil presented the gifts.
