Its highly joyful to know that an Indian has accomplished his mission of circumnavigating the whole world without a break. This appreciation goes to Indian navy’s commander Abhilash Tomy. He took the courage and risk of this voyage to full fill his 14 year old dream. He had full faith in his naval ship INSV Mahadevi which was built for the Indian navy. Lt.cmdr Abhilash Tomy is the first Indian and second Asian to take up such a blood curling challenge. In his own words: The solo circum-navigation, apart from being a physically arduous task, also requires very high standards of knowledge of navigation, meteorology and boat maintenance. So far less than 80 people in the world have successfully completed such an adventurous voyage. Its also breath taking to know that he was alone during all his days of journey. Honorable President of India H.E. Mr. Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday (6th April) accorded a warm welcome to Lt.cmdr Abhilash Tomy who went alone on this frightening trip lasting 150 days. Welcoming him the President said "To sustain a long voyage of over 150 days at sea, solo, non-stop, unassisted and sailing through some of the most treacherous oceans of the world, is a remarkable feat. This rare achievement showcases the spirit of determination, resolve and courage of both the individual and the organisation he represents," Addressing the media the navy commander shared his experiences during the voyage. He mentioned about the frightening moment he went through while crossing the three capes, i.e, Cape Leewin, Cape Horn and Cape of Good Hope. With his determined mind and highly practiced skills, he accomplished his mission which was his dream.

We the youth of today’s India should learn to be courageous and ambitious. We should have the courage to face any obstacle that we come across. Hoping that our country will have many more jewels like Abhilash Tomy…. JAI HIND!!.
