Football couldn’t get any better!

"He's six-foot two, brave as a lion, strong as an ox and quick as lightning. If he was good looking, you'd say he has everything." These are words said by Paul Jewel of BBC sports for the legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.

There was a kind of tempest in Kuwait when the news of the legendary Ronaldo coming here was announced. Excitement, Anticipations, Joy, Thrill, the football buffs had them all. It even didn’t stop them from buying tickets between the ranges 25 KD to 150 KD. Though it was the Real Madrid team that was arriving to Kuwait for a match against the Kuwait National team on 16 May, Ronaldo had stolen the entire spotlight. Other players including Kaka, Casillas, Benzema etc. did get attention too. ‘We entered the stadium and waited there for about an hour, all we were looking for was the man with the Number 7 jersey and the moment he became visible, I could not even hear my own voice for the stadium as such was screaming in the highest pitch possible. The man is simply great’ says one of the young Indian teens who happened to attend the match, claiming himself to be the luckiest person among many of his friends, ‘ I could show off forever ‘ he added.

The people’s response to the match has been amazing, partly due to the fact that they not only got to see ‘The Ronaldo’, but also because they saw him score a goal. ‘The header was wonderful. I wonder how he plays that way. I guess He’s tamed the ball’ said another spectator. The goal scored by Di Maria stole the centre-stage too. The 2-0 win did bring many smiles. Though expected, the victory was something worth celebrating. And given a question as to who the best player was in the match, the response from the spectator’s side was, without any doubts, Cristiano Ronaldo. ’He was more of a magician than a footballer’ was probably the best way any of the spectators defined the 45 minutes of Cristiano. When the man was leaving the ground after the first half of the game, there was a kind of silence. The spectators seemed to want more of the Number 7 man, But the coming in of Kaka and other eminent players into the ground did not let the excitement die down. But for those who spent their time, energy and money only for seeing the man himself in action, did see it as a 45 minute long match only.

There was a part for the females too. ‘They removed their T-shirts, all the players. If they stayed there longer, I would probably faint’ said yet another young female Spectator, though she claimed to have properly and carefully noticed CR.

So, a visit to the Al-Kuwait Sports Club stadium on the 16th of May was worth everything, be it the long-saved pocket money of young football fans, the expensive ticket prices or the sleepless nights due to excitement the match brought along with it.
