Transfer of Visit Visa to residency visas allowed

Interior Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah yesterday issued new residency bylaws allowing visit visas to be transferred to residency visas in some cases.

The new regulations, which explain how the residency law should be implemented, became effective as of Monday after their publication in the official gazette Kuwait Al-Youm.

Visit visas may be transferred to residency visas for the following categories: Subject to the residency affairs’ director’s decision, visitors of ministries and public authorities (with government visit visas) holding university degrees; domestic helpers; dependents arriving on family or tourist visit visas; holders of valid residencies who do not exceed six months out of Kuwait and have to enter with a visit visa; those who enter for work and start procedures to get residency, but have to leave for a maximum of one month; cases subject to the residency affairs directorate’s judgment.

The new rules included no major changes to residency fees, while dependent residency rules and others remain unchanged.

The only change was introducing a KD 3 fee for obtaining a visa on arrival, which used to be offered free of charge for some nationalities.

Residence and renewal fees remain at KD 10 per person per year.

Dependent residency fees for spouses and children remain at KD 10 per person annually, while the regulations allow the residency department to grant relatives other than the wife and children a dependent visa against a KD 200 charge yearly. This includes parents.

The regulations set a minimum of KD 500 in monthly salary for those who can bring their families from abroad on dependent visas, while they give the director of the department to exempt couples already living here from the salary condition. The regulations also exempt a large number of professions from the salary conditions. These include judges, doctors, engineers, teachers, journalists and many others.

The new bylaws introduce a tourist visa allowing tourists to stay in Kuwait for up to three months, and a multiple entry visa valid for one year for just KD 1 for each month. Foreigners whose residence is cancelled and those who resign are given up to three months of temporary residency to leave.

So kindly comment here, if we can transfer the visit visa to permanent residency visa for parents.

I wish to know if the children can also have their visa transfered to dependent. Does anyone have an idea about it?
I am the sponsor of my wife but I couldnt add my child due to the low salary scale. Now they say the law exempt the couples who are already there in the country to bring their family.
Does that mean the children can also be added to the sponsorship?

This contradicts to the article published in Kuwait Times dated 21 October, page 5; stating “No dependent visa for parents”. It’s difficult to believe the rules until they actually practiced in their true spirit! One needs to wait and watch it’s implementation.

Haaahaaaa,
I love these ppl. Keep circulating same stuffs every month if not every week. They have no idea what it''s all about and I can bet neither the top official nor the counter staffs know. What is it all about and what are the guidelines to implement it. By the way just last week they published that parents can''t be sponsored by the children and now one can sponsor any relative with 500 salary. These guys are really funny.
Only new thing I could see is the multiple entry visit visa. All others are the existing stuffs.

Now they slowly want to replicate the laws of UAE but can they work like the emiratis in the ministry and immigration departments to cope with the expected high volumes of visitors. ?? I can only chaos as they could not have a smooth transition from one cleaning company to other let alone transforming into a tourist place overnight. This should ideally be just a proposal and with thorough study it can be only successful if implemented in 2 years time. Considering the pace here 4 years would be better
