The prominence of Koluvu festival

God is the creator of this world. He gives us everything we possess and hence it is our divine duty to thank him all the times. My parents always say this to me. We need to be thankful to the Almighty God for showering his blessing upon us.

This Article conveys my grandmother’s explanation to me about the importance of navarathri festival to her opinion.

My Mom was chatting to my Grandmother about Koluvu festival. When I asked her what is that koluvu festival? Mom said- It is a festival Where idols of Ram pattabhishekam ( A function for Lord Ram ascending the throne of Ayodhya), the 9- form of evolution,Durga deity seated on throne with Mahisasura placed at her feet ( a demon killed by Godess Durga ) and so many other dieties are kept over the show case type ladder numbered in odd numbers with white cloth spreadedon it . The festival is continued for 9 days.. It is renowned as per their traditions and customs.. People do prayer for 3 Dieties on 3 days each to Matha Durga, Matha Laxmi and Matha Saraswathi( The Godesses of Power, Money and Wisdom respectively). Our great ancestors thought up the rituals and festivals for us to know about them.. Every festival has its own significance built in it.

I enquired her what is the purpose of such function? To this my grandmother revealed that through the idol display, kids and children are made anxious to know about the deities kept in the koluvu . It serves as a remembrance day showing our gratitude to our ancestors for the adults. She replied that it is easy for elders to teach young people about our culture, customs, deities, their forms, their origination, their great deeds, and their history. In this way, youngsters learn about the moral stories of each religious chapters, the characters ,they can visualize, from the whole of Ramayana and Mahabharatham ethics easily which is very difficult to read and understand them in smaller age . Every message depicts that evil will be abolished at all ages by the powerful Almighty. Few songs are also sung by people portraying the victorious deeds of various dieties .

The function also plays vital role for people to get socialized. She visits with her parents to invite her neighborhood women and children - the girl child is taught by her beloved ones how to welcome elders, kids, and friends by providing them kumkum bindi requesting their presence for the function in a traditional manner.

She arranges gifts for kids and all invitees with beetle leaves, mirror toys, turmeric and kumkum , fruits , food items, etc. she is made to learn material management-use the quantity at the best. handle situations and enjoy the happiness that comes from giving others. Here she observes her mother and grandmother to perform the best on her turn – practical learning process,

My Mom said here we can see along with the images of Dasavathar (8 Forms of Divine God), Astalaxmi ( Eight Forms of Godess Laxmi),The traditional wooden idol of a man and woman that comes through generation, idols of Mahisasura mardhini, Saraswati, Durga ,there is another display to show the Regional appearance of our Country, its vegetation, occupation, and people in the past ( dolls of man using bullock carts, trees wood cutters, agriculture, fishing are kept) . The creation of kids who arrange the dolls on sand develops his creativity in arranging cricket games, a park scene, a temple scene etc., sometimes of his choice . Girls do colorful big and small various types of rangol in the entrance and in plates, flower carpet, etc These attractive art work develops greater Excitement and entertainment for everyone to Serves as a means to earn confidence when their decorations are admired by their neighbours. ( a thing of beauty is a joy forever)..

The food placed in small bowls are distributed on these nine days. The peas, dhals , sweets prepared keeping in mind the taste and the health perspective . It includes sundal ( brown peas, chickpeas, double bean peas, various peas and grams made to make kids love each day dish , to create acquaintance about the healthy food . People gain awareness to the value of healthy foods at small age... Health is Wealth knowledge attained by making it a ritual to taste Healthy Food.

The Important one is on the Vijayadasami day when kids are asked to clean their things, and keep their book racks neat. Kids do take self-measures to know the work to do alone as self-help is the best help. He projects his cleanliness on this day.

One would feel the joy of the work to help family members by getting into teams with their relatives. Kids are taught about Team work, which does wonders as the colors bring life to rangoli or flowers and visualizing the bonding of love in getting together.

In some schools in India, Vijayadasami day is celebrated with bajans and prayer to goddess for wisdom.. Admissions for pre-school goers get started on this day. Few Students present some programs to make their teachers happy, give them presents and it as a thanks giving day for teachers who strive to progress their students towards success. Getting their blessings is a reward done this day(Service to man is service to God)is realised .

On this fortunate day kids and children are made to join new classes or start a new work.. Making him confident by allowing him to forget his past failures and to work to look forth for success.. a real positive mindset to get him positive energy. He is assured that when he starts studies on this occasion after prayer he will succeed.. filled with abundance of self-confidence and courage one starts to succeed…

Whether science accepts it or not ,Modern technology admits it or not.., Human race acknowledges it … as Faith brings Fuits….. Thus it is celebrated as a ritual to keep the spirituality of our ancestors alive.

Dear friends, upon this discussion, I wish we take the good and think the good. Let us take Only the good things and start good deeds and have a good beginning in our academics and extra –curricular activities enriching goodness to our lives, on this Promising day of vijayadasami . Wishing you all a very successful happy and prospherous vijayadasami day… May God bless all with opulence and success in the days ahead…
