The Republic Day Extravaganza

14 students of Indian Educational School, Kuwait, accompanied by three teachers had the rare opportunity of being a part of the 65th Republic Day Parade in New Delhi, held on 26th January 2014.

And I, D.R.Pratyusha of grade 10 deem it a great pleasure and privilege to have been able to witness this grand event up close.

On our arrival in Delhi on the 25th, the pleasant breeze made me feel elated and a sense of immense joy arose in me; I was in the capital of my motherland!

We checked into the hotel -'Welcome Dwaraka' and after a brief rest, started exploring Delhi.

We paid a visit to the India Habitat Centre, where we had our lunch. The fourteen of us were also given a good taste of the busy streets and markets of Delhi, when we went shopping to Sarojini market.

Keeping in mind that the following day would be a very eventful one, our teachers took us back to the hotel.

On the 26th of January, we had an early start to the venue. Flags were flared all over and I could hardly contain my excitement. Due to security reasons, we had to walk quite a distance to reach our designated enclosure.

The procedure through which security checking was done was quite an eye opener to me, for that made me realize how sanitization was done for other significant and momentous events. The much-awaited event soon began.

The highlights of the Republic Day Parade as viewed by me are listed below:

1. The events started off with the Honorable Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh paying tribute to the martyrs at Amar Jawan Jyothi.

2. Next, His Excellency Pranab Mukhurjee , the President Of India, along with The Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived at Rajpath.

3.With the Indian National Anthem in the background, the flag was unfurled. Seeing it dancing with the wind, my ecstatic heart was suddenly imbued with gratification towards my motherland and marvel at the sight!

4. The late Inspector K. Prasad Babu, the brave heart of Andhra Pradesh was conferred with the Ashok Chakra which was received by his father.

5. The President received the salute from the Army, Border Security Force and Air Force. The elite defense wings of India showcased the advanced military technology and weapons, which every Indian is proud of today.

5. Next the tableaus of various states took center stage as they rolled down the path in all their splendor, depicting the culture of their respective states.

6. The 25 national Bravery Award recipients reminded us of our responsibility towards our great nation.

7. We were soon enveloped in National fervor when the enthusiastic students of various schools of Delhi tried to present a picture of the colourful diversity of our country through its dance forms.

8.Following a breathtaking fly-past by the Indian Air-force, the feeling of nationalism was at its peak, when the huge crowd gathered proudly sang the Indian National Anthem.

Apart from joining in the enthusiasm of our fellow citizens at Rajpath, we also got the opportunity to meet many international delegates and Army Generals from other countries including Russia and Mauritius.

This enriching experience evoked the intense feeling of patriotism in us. Time flew by so quickly that we didn't realize that we were back in our bus, not tired and exhausted, but wiser and prouder.

I would like to thank our honorable Chairman, Mr. N.K.Ramachandran, our beloved Principal Mr.T.Premkumar and the accompanying teachers for giving us an amazing opportunity to feel truly one with the spirit of the nation on the blessed day.
