The General Traffic Department has warned drivers to avoid sudden turns and reckless lane swerving, as new traffic laws impose strict penalties for such violations. Authorities stressed the importance of signaling before turning and using hazard lights properly to ensure safety for all road users.
Drivers must now activate hazard lights only in specific situations — such as vehicle breakdowns, sudden stops, or emergencies — and not while turning. Improper use or failure to signal can lead to serious consequences. Under the updated laws, not following lane markings could result in a KD 50 fine if settled out of court, or up to two months in jail and fines of KD 100–200 if taken to court. Swerving between lanes without warning carries a KD 30 fine, or up to one month in jail and higher fines if prosecuted. Authorities urge all motorists to follow lane discipline and signal responsibly to avoid accidents and legal trouble.
