Omicron variant: India announces additional measures for international travellers

India on Sunday announced a number of safety measures for international travellers in light of the emergence of omicron variant of Covid-19. The new rules will come into force from December 1.

As per guidelines shared by the Union Health Ministry, travellers from 'countries at-risk' will need to take Covid-19 test post arrival and wait for results at airport. If tested negative, they will follow home quarantine for seven days. Re-test on eighth day and if negative, futher self-monitor for next seven days.

The travellers also have to submit their travel details for the last 14 days and upload the negative RT-PCR test report on Air Suvidha portal before commencing their journey, the guideline states.

Passengers from at-risk countries, including all European countries, will have to undergo a seven-day mandatory quarantine, if they are tested negative for Covid-19. If tested positive, they will undergo strict isolation procedures, according to newly issued guidelines by the Indian government.
