
Director of the Security Media Department at the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier Nasser Bousleib, stressed the need to increase the traffic penalties to act as a deterrent to traffic law violators.
In an interview with the Kuwait news Channel Al-Akhbar, he mentioned that the number of deaths recorded during the year 2023 due to traffic accident was nearly 300, in which most of them were young people between the ages of 18 and 30.
He stated that the new traffic law is getting finalised and will include heavy penalties in order to stop the violation and reckless driving.
The fine for reckless driving will be increased from 30 dinars to 150 dinars, and that for crossing the red signal will increase from 50 dinars to 150 dinars.
He stated that there are be severe penalties including withdrawing the driver's license for some offences. If the license is withdrawn repeatedly, the person will be required to take a fresh driving test.
