NBTC fire: MD assures all support to victims’ families

Three days after the building fire in Mangaf, which claimed the lives of 49 people, KG Abraham, the Managing Director of NBTC, who is in Kerala, said at a press conference that his company would provide support to the families of the victims.

Abraham said, "We will soon disperse Rs 8 lakh as compensation to all the victims who lost their life. Further, there is insurance coverage for all of its employees. This will ensure that the families receive four years' salaries. We are in constant contact with the families of the victims and will extend all necessary support to them. NBTC stands committed to standing by these families during this difficult time.”

K G Abraham said that his company is taking responsibility for the unfortunate incident. He added that his company took the building on lease to provide accommodation to his employees.

"My children are going to meet the families of all victims in various states. We want to assure all our support to the families. If they want jobs or assistance for higher education, we will provide that."

"The fire was not due to our negligence, but we take responsibility for the tragedy. We were told that the cause of the fire was a short circuit. All our rooms in the apartments had centralised AC. We had not crammed people in rooms, as alleged. We care about the safety of employees and used to conduct safety checks at regular intervals. Our employees are not allowed to cook food in their rooms; they have a common kitchen and dining area," he said.

The company assured that all employees are covered under a life insurance policy. A compensation of Rs 8 lakh will be given to the families of the victims as soon as possible. The company will also provide a job to a dependent of each victim,” K G Abraham said.

He thanked the governments of Kuwait and India and the Indian Embassy for their effective intervention after the tragic incident. is now on WhatsApp Channel    Follow Channel

Nice gesture by NBTC for taking responsibility for the incident. Have seen all my life that companies wash their hands when such ghastly accidents happen, but NBTC management proved that they are different.
