Move to lay off 25,000 expats and replace them with citizens

Chairman of the parliamentary manpower committee MP Khalil Al-Saleh spoke about a plan to lay off 25,000 expats and replace them with citizens, local Arabic media reported. However the daily did not give any details.

Daily, quoting him, reported that the parliamentary manpower committee discussed various proposals on employing children of Kuwaiti women in various state bodies.

The total number of citizens registered at the Civil Service Commission (CSC) awaiting employment had dropped to 6,000. The committee had been notified of the availability of 1,500 job vacancies for Kuwaitis in the banking sector.

Lawmakers have been pushing the government in recent years to create more jobs for national manpower in the private sector, which relies heavily on expatriate labor. Expatriate make up more than 90 percent of the private sector’s workforce

Meanwhile, daily also reported that there are no Kuwaiti nurses because Shadadiya university does not have a nursing faculty.

I worked in Kuwait for about nine years in a prestigious post in Govt oil sector. I know the pros and cons Kuwaiti attitude toward work culture. The present day profit of Kuwaiti company comes due to very low salary of about 80 kd given to labourers from Bangladesh, India Pakistan etc. you at least pay fifteen times that salary to a Kuwaiti boy to hire him. Even then, only Allah knows if he will remain in that job for a year or contribute to the company with his sweat and blood .

The lawmakers in Kuwait are only dreaming that in private sectors will employ Kuwaitis instead of expatriates. Will Kuwaitis work for low salaries? If the private sector company has to employ Kuwaitis @90% then it will shut down soon. Nobody wants to run a company in loss, everyone wants profit and so by employing lower salary expatriates, these companies can earn good profit.

In Private Sector most of the expatriate labor have salaries 70 KD to 200 KD - If by replacing by Kuwaitis and they are ready to work in that salary then it will be the good news to nationwide. I hope Lawmakers have push hard to the government in recent years to create more jobs for national manpower in the private sector for Kuwaitis in 70 KD to 200 KD salary range and they will work hard like us.
