The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has confirmed that planned power outages during the summer can be avoided if just 10% of consumers reduce their electricity usage during peak hours, according to sources quoted by Al-Jarida daily.
Officials revealed that the highest load disconnected under the scheduled outage plan this year reached 909 megawatts in April, which is less than 10% of the recorded peak load of 17,640 megawatts for the same month. If 10% of consumption—about 1,764 megawatts—is voluntarily reduced, it would be enough to prevent power cuts.
The ministry is urging both individuals and organizations to adopt simple energy-saving practices such as setting air conditioners to 24°C, switching off unnecessary appliances during peak times, and using energy-efficient lighting.
Authorities stressed that public cooperation, along with government efforts, can help maintain the stability of the electricity grid throughout the high-demand summer period. The ministry continues to monitor consumption closely and highlights that collective conservation is the most effective and cost-efficient way to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
