In a step towards protecting consumer health and safety, the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has decided to implement hydrogenated fats regulation that aims to remove industrial trans fatty acids, starting from May 2025.
As per this, all food establishments, factories, and product suppliers must comply with new regulations to eliminate trans fatty acids from food products.
This regulation may affect food factories relying heavily on trans fats, such as those producing potato chips and various baked goods. It will not affect restaurants who re using vegetable oils, sources said.
It aligns with the Gulf Technical Regulation 2483 on Trans Fats and Product Contents, which highlights the health risks associated with the consumption of industrial trans fats. The decision underscores Kuwait’s commitment to safeguarding public health and promoting healthier food standards.
