Kuwait shuts down 14 new pharmacies for increasing the mask prices

Wednesday, February 26, 2020

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Trade and Industry closed 14 new drugstores for failure to commit to the decided prices of medical masks.

Thus, the total number of closed pharmacies has risen to 19, the ministry said in a press statement.

The shutdown is part of a campaign launched by the ministry to control the price of medical masks in the country.

Earlier on Tuesday, the ministry closed five pharmacies for raising the price of masks illegally.

Some of the trade shops at Ahmadi, like Global Internationals, Al Ajmi, etc have also increased the price of masks recently. Venus mask which was having a price of maximum KD 5 for #50 pieces, and now Al Ajmi at Ahmadi selling at KD 12 which is not acceptable at any cost. These traders are misusing the opportunity while the country is facing CORONA Virus. If someone of us is aware of where we have to complain against these activities, please advise.

Excellent decision by officials, all the masks are being sold at sky rocket price, which is worst than the murder during this critical situation. Even bakalas selling at unbelievable price; no stock anywhere in Salmiya, managed to find paper mask for that they demand 6kd....Government should distribute at the government fixed rate at all cooperatives to stop spreading the disease. its pathetic the common people are unable to available the mast during this juncture in this rich country.
