Kuwait cabinet urges people to avoid gathering

The Kuwaiti Cabinet held its weekly meeting on Monday at Seif Palace, under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, urging citizens and expats to avoid gatherings for their safety.

At the beginning, the Cabinet listened to a presentation made by Minister of Health Sheikh Dr. Bassel Al-Sabah on the latest developments relating to the coronavirus locally and globally, Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Sabah said after the meeting.

Sheikh Bassel highlighted the noticeable rise in the coronavirus cases over the last period and those who are receiving treatment at hospitals, referring to people who did not abide by health and preventive measures mainly pertaining to social distancing in public places.

He said this such acts would harm all and lead to the spread of the pandemic, offering results of viral genes tests conducted recently by the Ministry of Health that confirmed some Delta mutated cases spreading in more than 60 countries all over the world, Sheikh Ahmad Nasser said.

The Cabinet lauded awareness of people and their keenness on abiding by health requirements and avoiding gatherings.

It warned at the same time that there are some who do not stick to these measures over the past period, stressing that the society's responsibility depends on raising awareness towards the virus' risks.

Furthermore, the Cabinet urged people to abide by instructions issued by the Ministry of Health including the gatherings for the safety of all to control the spread of the virus.

It extolled the high turnout of people to receive anti-virus vaccines in order to reach the desired societal immunity.

On the occasion of the official inauguration of permanent office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Kuwait due on Tuesday (tomorrow), His Highness the Prime Minister noted that the move will be a key additional to the two sides to enhance the joint action especially during this exceptional period.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet discussed the recommendation by the economic affairs committee on the fifth annual report of the national committee of combating money laundering and financing terrorism that includes the most outstanding challenges facing the committee.

It also focused on the political affairs in light of the latest developments on the political arena on both Arab and regional levels.

In this regard, the Cabinet expressed Kuwait's strong condemnation of Houthis' continued targeting of civilians on Saudi Arabia that were recently two drones launched on Asir Province and Khamees Mushait, but the coalition intercepted and destroyed them.

The Cabinet affirmed that the continuation of these criminal acts poses a threat to Saudi Arabia and the region's stability.

It emphasized Kuwait's fully solidarity with Saudi Arabia in all measures it takes to maintain its security, stability and sovereignty.

The Cabinet said Kuwait welcomed Saudi Arabia's decision on confining this year's pilgrimage on citizens and expats not more than 60,000 due to the repercussions of the COVID-19, lauding efforts made by Saudi Arabia to serve pilgrims and maintain their safety.

The Cabinet welcomed the election of the UAE as a non-permanent member at the UN Security Council, noting that the move reflects the prominent role of this Arab country on regional and international levels under Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahayan.

It congratulated the UAE, its leadership, government and people on this membership.

In addition, the cabinet voiced Kuwait's condemnation of Houthis' missile attacks on Yemen's Mari'b that killed and wounded dozens of people.

It said that continuing such hostile attacks, targeting civilians, undermining the region's stability and ignoring international efforts aiming to reach the desired political solution mirror a hostile approach adopted by these militias that need an immediate action to put an end to these acts.
