Kuwait-based Indian presented a talk at United Nations General Assembly Science Summit

Kuwait-based Indian national and Research Scientist at Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), Dr Jafarali Parol, presented his talk on “Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructures – Challenges and opportunities” at the prestigious Science Summit at United Nations General Assembly (UNGA77), which is taking place at Newyork.

Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) convened a special session on “Role of Infrastructure on Sustainable Development” at the Summit. Dr Jafarali was the only Indian in the panel, representing the State of Kuwait. Other speakers in the panel include Dr Khaled A. Mahdi (Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development Kuwait), Dr Shaikha Al-Sanad (Program Manager / Research Scientist, KISR), Dr. Osamah AlSayegh (Research Scientist KISR), Dr. Hasan Kamal (Member of Kuwait Municipal Council), Prof. Eyad Masad (Texas A&M University Qatar) and Akilu Yunusa-Kaltungo (The University of Manchester, UK)

The Summit will examine what enabling policy, regulatory and financial environments are needed to implement and sustain the science mechanisms required to support genuinely global scientific collaborations across continents, nations and themes.

In the session, which is being held in a hybrid mode, Dr Jafarali presented his topic online. In his speech, Dr Jafar mentioned that the use of 3D printing in building infrastructures would be the future of the construction industry. However, innovative concrete material that can be used for 3D printing and useful for the construction of any structures is a future need. He also mentioned that modern technology utilizing sensor technologies and data analytics is being developed and implemented by KISR research team. The technology is already used to monitor the tallest building in Kuwait and the highway bridge in Kuwait is very useful technology to identify the structural deterioration of these infrastructures.

During the session, the speakers shared the need to use modern technology and the capability of data analytics in every possible opportunity.

Hailing from Kerala, India, Dr Jafarali is leading the unique research project 'Smart Bridge' in Kuwait. He has carried research activities for the real-time structural health monitoring of the infrastructure development projects across Kuwait to make it 'Smart'.

Working as a Research Scientist in one of the prestigious scientific research institutes in Kuwait, KISR, Jafarali has published much of his research work in reputed international journals and conferences. Before joining KISR, Dr Jafarali had worked as a Scientist with India's Aeronautical Development Agency under the Ministry of Defense. He played a crucial role in the structural design of "Tejas" Fighter Aircraft, indigenously developed in India.
