Kuwait announces 40-day mourning, suspends works for 3 days

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah ordered a 40-day mourning and flags flown at half-mast while government departments would cease working for three days as of Friday following passing away of President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.

His Highness the Amir instructed the period of mourning in solidarity and sympathy with the UAE and its people in the wake of the death of Sheikh Khalifa, whom he described as "a great leader" who dedicated his life for service of his people, and defending Arab and Islamic causes.

Meanwhile, the Civil Service Commission announced the suspension of work in ministries and government agencies for a period of three days, starting from Friday. All Ministries will resume work on Monday, May 16th.
