Inspiring Indian Women Achievers

Indian Women have come forward and achieved so much in almost all fields that they have come equal to men. There are many inspiring Indian women who have achieved in their respective fields and brought us the hope that every girl has the potential to achieve whatever she wants to.

Here are some of the Inspiring Indian Women Achievers.

Bhakti Sharma - Bhakti Sharma is an Indian Open water swimmer. She is the first Asian woman and the youngest in the world to set a record in open swimming in Antarctic waters. She set a world record by swimming 1.4 miles in 52 minutes in one-degree temperature in the Antarctic Ocean. She received the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award from Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.

PV Sindhu - Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is an Indian professional badminton player. She became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal, and one of the two Indian badminton players to ever win an Olympic medal.

Saina Nehwal - Saina Nehwal is an Indian professional badminton singles player. She won gold at 2018 Commonwealth Games in women's singles after defeating P. V. Sindhu after which she became the first Indian to win 2 singles gold in commonwealth games. She is the first Indian badminton player to have won an Olympic medal, along with being the only Indian to have won the BWF World Junior Championships or to have reached to the final of the BWF World Championships.

Sakshi Malik -Sakshi Malik is an Indian freestyle wrestler. She won the bronze medal in the 58 kg category, becoming the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the Olympics and the fourth female Olympic medalist from the country.

Sulajja Firodia Motwani - She is an Indian entrepreneur who contributed tremendously to the growth of Kinetic Motors Company Limited. She is the Joint MD of the company and earlier worked in a California-based Investment Company for a period of four years. She played a major role in designing and new strategies for the company. She was honored the title of “Face of the Millenium” by India Today magazine. She has also been selected by the World Economic Forum as a “Global Leader of Tomorrow” and “Young Global Leader”.

Puja Thakur - Wing Commander Pooja Thakur became the first woman to lead the ceremonial tri-service guard of honour inspected by U.S. President Barack Obama at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Wing Commander Pooja Thakur, who has served in the IAF for 13 and a half years, is an administration officer and is posted at its publicity cell, DISHA, at the Delhi Air Headquarters in New Delhi. She is a para jumper, and hails from Rajasthan.

Meira Kumar - First Woman Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Meira Kumar, is a disciplinarian to the core. Kumar was a lawyer and a diplomat before being elected to the Lok Sabha first to the 8th Lok Sabha. She is a strong proponent of women’s empowerment in India, having strongly opposed the dilution of the Anti-dowry law.

Bachendri Pal - The first Indian woman to scale the Mount Everest in 1984, Bachendri Pal is a picture of grit, determination and one who dares to dream. She continues to be active even today, and she is involved with the TATA Group, as the chief of the TATA Steel Adventure Foundation (TASF). She heads expeditions in the Himalayas organized by TASF for women.

P.T.Usha - Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha popularly known as P. T. Usha, is a retired Indian track and field athlete. She has been associated with Indian athletics since 1979. She is often called the "queen of Indian track and field". She was the first Indian woman to reach the final of an Olympic event by winning the semi-finals of the 400 m hurdles in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

Kiran Bedi - Kiran Bedi is a retired Indian Police Service officer, social activist, former tennis player and politician who is the current Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. She is the first woman to join the Indian Police Service (IPS). She remained in service for 35 years before taking voluntary retirement in 2007 as Director General, Bureau of Police Research and Development.
