The India’s Independence Day, that marks the beginning of an era of deliverance from the clutches of British colonialism is celebrated on 15th of August every year widely across India. It was on 15th August 1947 that India became independent from the British rule. Indians across the globe celebrate this day in their respective Embassies; many Indian organizations celebrate this day with zeal and zest.

The Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA), Kuwait Chapter replaced its traditional Independence Day celebration with a virtual program that brought the AMU alumni community together through interactive digital platform ZOOM, maintaining social distancing, due to COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s celebrations involved children of alumni, keeping in mind the need of inculcating the love and patriotism in their young minds. The program duration was of 40 minutes and the performances of the children were engrossing and absorbing.

The program presided over with the introductory speech of Vice President of AMUOBA Kuwait Mr. Nauroz Ahmad followed by Kuwait National Anthem and Indian National Anthem and a welcome note by President of the Association Mr. Irfan Mohammed Khan.

A total of 12 children participated in the event. It was proud moment for us all, watching our little champs perform with enthusiasm and joy. The anchors of the program were Miss. Sarah Mohammad Maseeh and Syed Amaan Shahaab. Mohammad Abdullah and Miss Yusra Nauroz Ahmad spoke on the importance of Independence Day in the Indian history. Patriotic poems were recited by Miss Khadeejah Seerat Khan and Miss Ayesha Jamil. A young boy, Master Ibrahim Javed Warsi stunned everyone by singing a patriotic song. There were two group songs sung, by Miss. Kulsum, Miss.Sarah, Miss Sidra, Miss. Aamna, Miss. Hiba and Miss. Samia, which added vigor, energy and patriotism to the program. As a token of appreciation, the Association distributed goodie bags to the participants, which were delivered at their doorsteps.

Last but not the least, Mr. Yusuf Abdullah, an EC member of the Association concluded The Program with the vote of thanks. The program was led and well executed by our EC members, Ms Shazia Mansoor and Ms Samia Rafat..

Keeping the protocol of social distancing, most of the participants performed from their homes. This type of virtual celebration is one of its kind in Kuwait and is widely appreciated by not only the Indian community in Kuwait but Indians across the globe.
