Gulf Bank reduces employee working hours from May 1st

As part of its ongoing efforts to create an ideal work environment that reflects its deep commitment to employee wellbeing and work-life balance, Gulf Bank has announced a reduction in daily working hours by half an hour. This change will take effect starting May 1, 2025.

Mrs. Salma Al-Hajjaj, General Manager of Human Resources at Gulf Bank, said that the bank firmly believe that achieving a healthy balance between professional and personal life is a key factor in enhancing employee performance and productivity. This initiative reflects the Bank’s genuine care for the physical and mental wellbeing of its employees, she added.

This change will not affect branch operating hours, which will continue as per the existing schedule, ensuring uninterrupted services and a consistently high standard of customer experience.

Reducing staff working hours at Gulf Bank is clearly not the right move, especially when customer service is already suffering across all branches. I''ve consistently had very bad experiences, with wait times often exceeding two hours just to receive basic services. This is not acceptable for any banking institution.

Instead of shortening working hours, Gulf Bank should focus on training their staff in proper customer service and improving operational efficiency. Long queues, slow processing, and a lack of urgency from staff are recurring issues that seriously affect customer satisfaction.

If customer experience truly matters to the bank, then immediate action is needed to address these issues — not measures that make the situation worse

When we went to Gulf Bank Salmiya Cooperative Branch near KFC, very good staff and good approach to us. They finish the work within a short time and its a good service.

Gulf Bank management should take steps to improve staffing and efficiency at the branches.
Waiting two hours for a simple card collection is unacceptable and not reflective of the quality of service expected from a leading bank (Sabhan Branch).
Arrived the Branch at 8:30 AM and being informed that the cards were ready for delivery, I had to wait until 10:30 AM to receive them. More concerning is that there was not even a large crowd at the branch.
After waiting for over an hour, I asked the staff member about the delay, and he informed me that I have to wait as he was alone and had a lot of work to handle.

What will be the benefit for customers

Rather Mrs.Al-Hajjaj should enroll all employees into Personality-Development Course, which is highly required for their employees at current. Since Customers are the only source of incomming-cash, they should be treated like a KING, not vice-versa. I bet the employees would even go for it.
-just an suggestion.

Great implementation. This should follow all industrial sectors.
Nowadays every industry seeking and earning more effective works from the employees within the standard working hours and less manpower with less salary. So by equalising the benefits between employer and employee this working hrs reduction will give a relax from overload work.
My organisation is increased the week days from 5 to 6, and reduced the overtime pay, and assign overload work. Without any incentive.
