Indians travelling to Manchester, UK from Mumbai have found themselves stranded at Kuwait airport for more than 13 hours on Sunday following an emergency landing of the Gulf Air flight. The Mumbai-Manchester flight was forced to make an emergency landing after two hours of taking off from its Bahrain stopover.
Around 60 Indian passengers on the flight were having a hard time as no facility was arranged by the airline even after hours of delay. Visuals of Gulf Air passengers arguing with the authorities have also gone viral on social media. The affected commuters have alleged harassment and claimed that the airline only provided accommodation to EU, UK and American citizens.
However the Indian Embassy officials in Kuwait took up the issue after it came to their notice. "A team from Embassy is at the airport to assist the passengers and coordinate with the airline. Passengers have been accommodated in 2 airport lounges," Indian Embassy informed via a tweet after the video of the stranded passengers went viral.
As it is public holiday in Kuwait due to the ongoing GCC Summit, the Indian nationals were also not able to get an entry visa to shift them to the hotels. However, they were later given lounge access by the airline after the Embassy officials involved in this matter.
"Embassy has been informed by Gulf Air that the flight for stranded passengers from Kuwait to Manchester is tentatively scheduled at 3.30 am on 2 Dec. This is being conveyed to all passengers by the Embassy team at the airport," Embassy informed in its tweet.
Update:
The Gulf Air flight has finally departed Kuwait Airport at 04:34 am on Monday, Dec 2nd carrying stranded Indian passengers among others. Indian Embassy team was on the ground till the flight departed.
