Father's approval required for expat child to leave country

Tuesday, July 30, 2024
Father

The Ministry of Interior implemented a new measure for an expat child to leave the country. According to Arabic media report, the father's signature in a special approval statement prepared by the Passports Department is required for a child to leave the country even if the child is going with his mother or any relative.

The regulation is already in effect at all ports from today, local Arabic daily Al Jarida reported.

According to reports, this new measure is aimed to prevent marital dispute issues. As the father is the legal sponsor of the child within the country, his consent is mandatory for the child to travel out of country even if he is travelling with the mother.

This law aims to prevent disputes and protect children by ensuring both parents are involved in travel decisions. However, it may create challenges for mothers in urgent situations, potentially delaying travel plans and adding stress, especially in cases of strained parental relationships. Balancing these concerns with provisions for emergencies will help the law function smoothly and support family unity.

There is no no clarity in the law as mentioned as we all know only from the news paper. Is this applicable only below 18 years or applicable for all? Looks strange

How come the regulation is already in effect at all ports from today? Isn''t this a surprise to people during the travel? There should have been some clarity and education to expats before implementing this law.

Ya right.

This law is going to bring glory to the image of Kuwait in the modern world.

If there is a marital dispute, settle it elsewhere. Draconian laws that makes no sense. Come on. Whose male ego was hurt so much I wonder.

The implemented measures for travel does not indicate the procedure if the father is deceased and the mother is the sponsor of the children.............Then who''s approval is needed to travel out of the country???

This is very bad decision, because if the father is a liar and torturing to his wife along with children then what a mother can do in this situation? If a father said I am your sponsor and I will not let you travel unless you are not following my instructions then what a mother can do, its like slave scenario. In very rare cases when quarrel happened between wife and husband then wife could fly by taking the children along with her but if you look at the bigger picture its not practically good decision. If they are bounded in a relationship then husband can travel to her own country and would resolve the differences there and bring the family back to kuwait.

Is there any upper age limit for children? Or any child under the father''s sponsorship will need the father''s consent even though he/she is an adult?

What about adult and unmarried daughters more than 21 years old? Can they travel alone without any approval from the father? Also what is the procedure in the passport office?
