Diwali Celebrations by Nris

The Time When Your Heart Misses a Beat But Finds it Later

There is sunshine, there is grace in my beautiful residential place.

I love to stay in Kuwait. It has joyful parks, beautiful malls and green gardens. But a quote says, “of all the paths you take in life some of them will have dirt in them”. There is one thing that makes me feel bad in Kuwait, people say that while bursting firecrackers during Diwali burns all your worries, bad times and sad memories. But Diwali season is the prime time during which NRIs like me feel extremely homesick, further rubbed in by constant wishes from relatives back home and by programs and news on the Indian channels. I think each year “how am I going to replace the festivities, hustles, fun and frolic back home while settling here?”. And then to top my homesickness more, back at home if you’re from South India, it begins with Ganesh Chaturthi, Dussehra and then Diwali. In Kuwait we are not allowed to burst big and exiting crackers as it would pollute the environment. Though, bursting crackers is not good for the environment, I really miss the times I spent Diwali at India. We are only permitted to burst small crackers that won’t harm the environment during Diwali. Be it the Gulf, your home remains your home; your existence, your way to pass time nothing replaces the festive outbursts. Well yes, we could travel to India during these times but that is exactly when our exams start. So, we miss the opportunity of traveling to India every year! The least we could do to make ourselves feel better is to have a get-together with our friends and distribute sweets to each other.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “be the change you want to see”. This quote taught me to see the bright side of life, Kuwait is a wonderful country. I realized that it the simple things in life that make living worthwhile. Let it be work or rest or even bursting little crackers. But what really matters is that we enjoy ourselves wherever we are. It is a good thing the government reduced bursting of crackers. It is only because of them that Kuwait is now a clean country. They take all possible measures to introduce more botanical gardens in Kuwait. The Kuwait government should be appreciated and not blamed. There are many beautiful malls, gardens and clean beaches.

We could spend our time there with our friends and family, enjoying ourselves!

I am proud to be a resident of Kuwait.
