Parliament’s Committee for Interior and Defence Affairs will meet today, Sunday Oct 1st, to discuss the amended bill regarding the foreigners’ residency law in Kuwait, local media reported.
According to local reports, the bill imposes penalties of maximum three-year imprisonment and/or a fine ranging from KD 5,000 to KD 10,000 against individuals who are accused of human trafficking by bringing in expatriate workers for money.
The bill also set strict conditions for the deportation of expatriates, which allow the Minister of Interior to deport expatriate workers, even if they hold a valid residency, in case the minister deems deportation is necessary to preserve public interest or based on moral and security reasons, or if they are not working to survive. The decision to deport may include the expatriate’s family members whom he sponsors.
The report on the bill is expected to be completed before the end of the upcoming parliamentary sessions.
